Rosh Hashana – the Jewish New Year - in Israel

Rosh Hashana is the Jewish New Year. Rosh Hashana is the day when people are judged on their deeds, the day on which G-d decides whether he will be “written into the Book of Life” or not. It is customary on this festival to blow a ram’s horn (Shofar) and of course the symbols of the festival differ between the various ethnic groups. One symbol which is shared by everyone is the apple and honey and the familiar blessing which blesses us with a good and sweet year.
