Zichron Yaakov is situated on the slopes of a mountain overlooking the sea with a rural and relaxed atmosphere and beautiful scenery. Zichron offers the Israeli visitor a feeling of being abroad and this without going to the airport.
This community received its name Zichron Ya’akov from the Baron de Rothschild who named it after his father. Zichron Ya’akov is a colourful and interesting community which offers a lot to tourists and travellers. Start with a stroll down the pedestrian mall which has become famous because of its special atmosphere; the pedestrian mall has cobblestones and many picturesque coffee houses and cosy restaurants, beautifully designed shops and galleries with arts and crafts.
Zichron was established in 1882 and encountered difficulties due to its population who were not used to farming. At this stage the Baron de Rothschild took sponsorship of the town and gave it its name when he inaugurated the synagogue in the heart of the community. During the First World War the community became the center of activity for the Nili which transferred information to the British Army in order to help them take control from the Turks who were ruling in Israel.
The most characteristic symbol of the town is wine, due to many wineries operating there.
You will be able to take a wine and cheese tour on organized tours through the community or choose a number of wineries to visit by yourselves. The largest winery and the first built in Israel is the Carmel Winery.
In Zichron you will find the First Immigration Museum, which is a museum located in an impressive and unique historical building and tells the story of the people of the first immigration who came to Israel in 1882.
The Aharonson House also called the Nili Museum tells the story of the Aharonson Family and the Nili underground movement.
The Nadiv Gardens are suitable for those looking for a feeling of overseas. It is a huge park in the southern area of Zichron.
The majority of the park is natural woodland and in the center of it stunning gardens in the classic European style.
We recommend a visit to the Aroma Gardens there you will be smell and touch the plants.
You will be able to visit the area which has renovated the first houses of the town, the Shapiya area.
The Langa Estate is the remains of a beautiful estate also known as the “Carmel Courtyard”.
Zichron as a tourism center is rich in many and varied Acremmodation options, from hotels through to pampering guesthouses and less expensive options.
You will also be able to visit the town, tours which take you along the wine route, which is that same renovated pedestrian mall on Derech Hameyasdim.
For hikers you will be able to choose hiking trails of several hours close to the community and outside it.
